1973: Honey Radio (1950s/60s Oldies) is born — simulcast on both 94.7 FM (WHNE) and 560 AM (WHND). WHNE/WHND is one of the first ‘oldies’ radio stations in the USA.

1973 through 1974: WHND-AM 560 21-year continuous run as a rock and roll era all-oldies formatted radio station is regarded unprecedented and unsurpassed for the AM dial in Detroit radio history.

1994: Greater Media brokers station to Spanish language broadcaster on December 2; Last WHND broadcast day was Friday, November 25, 1994. All-Oldies Honey Radio 21-year run in Detroit comes to an end. (Source: Michiguide.com)

  3. Loved Honey radio! Grew up listening, still my all time favorite station. I have still programed a preset in ever one of my cars in memorial to the station. I even won a T shirt which I still have. I wish that somehow we could bring it back in some form. Makes me sad and miss the station even more listening to the old on air clips. Can’t believe there’s no comments posted here about how great this station was. In a perfect world for me Honey radio would be broadcasting forever!

    1. Bruce, I can relate as per your stated sentiments, totally agreed! Love that station as well . . . did you know that Honey Radio was on the air for 22 years in the Motor City (FM than AM – 1972 through 1984). Accordingly, it was stated in a trade publication once that WHND was the longest on-air station in the entire United States when it sign off for good in November 1994. Seriously!

      You’re absolutely right! I loved listening to Honey radio and it helped get me through graduate school in Windsor 1973-75…lots of all-nighters with it playing in the background. Sure brings back great memories…and how I’d love to hear it all again!!!
